The Borderlands franchise is in the news these days for all the wrong reasons, with a disastrous movie that has managed to claw its way to a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes. Gearbox was likely hoping for a more positive reception for the movie ahead of its Borderlands 4 announcement at gamescom 2024, but here we are. Opening Night Live kicked off with a teaser trailer for the next entry in the franchise, though it didn’t reveal much in terms of a cinematic trailer. All we know is that it’ll launch sometime in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, including Steam.

Borderlands 4 will arrive five years after the launch of Borderlands 3, which disappointed many fans of the franchise. While the gameplay improved, the story and characters were a mess. Hopefully, Borderlands 4 goes back to its roots, and we’re eager to see what Gearbox Software has been developing over the past few years.

The official trailer’s description reads, “In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.”
