PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members have a lot to look forward to on August 20, when several must-play titles join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. For me, this is one of the most exciting lineups I’ve seen, although some of the games are rather old. If you’ve somehow never managed to purchase a copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The latter is an enhanced version of the game with visual and technical improvements, faster loading times, and several community-created mods. It also supports real-time ray tracing, 3D audio, and more. It’s widely considered one of the best games ever, and if you don’t know why, now is a good time to find out.
Another standout title is Cult of the Lamb (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5), an indie game developed by Massive Monster. In it, players take on the role of a possessed lamb saved by a stranger, and they must repay their debt by building a loyal following in his name. Build up your cult by exploring a randomly generated world, defeating enemies and rival cult leaders, and building a loyal community of worshippers.
Next on the list is EA’s take on Monster Hunter with Wild Hearts (PlayStation 5). It’s from the same minds behind the Dynasty Warriors franchise, Omega Force, and is set in a fantasy world inspired by feudal Japan. The game adds a unique twist by using technology, like hunting towers, to fight against the beasts.
Motorcycle enthusiasts can look forward to Ride 5 (PlayStation 5), featuring over 200 bikes from world-renowned manufacturers and over 35 tracks. Though considered disappointing by some, Watch Dogs 2 (PlayStation 4) is another classic to experience if you’ve missed it all these years. This Ubisoft creation makes a return to the PlayStation Plus catalog, where you play as Marcus Holloway, a young hacker in the San Francisco Bay Area.
If you’re a Sword Art Online fan, there are four games for you to look forward to on August 20—Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization (PlayStation 4), Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet (PlayStation 4), Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris (PlayStation 4), and Sword Art Online: Last Recollection (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5). Anime fans can also look forward to Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker (PlayStation 4), another PlayStation Plus re-release.
Those who took advantage of the recent PlayStation VR2 deal and are also PlayStation Premium subscribers will get access to Vacation Simulator. From the creators of Job Simulator, Vacation Simulator is quite the opposite of the team’s other hit game, allowing players to relax and live out a virtual vacation. The TimeSplitters series takes center stage for this month’s Classics additions, with the original TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Finally, there’s another SAO title joining as a classic: Sword Art Online: Lost Song (PlayStation 4).
