Newly enhanced versions of DOOM and DOOM II are now available, delivering the definitive editions of the classic first-person shooters that arguably pushed the genre forward. The new versions of the classics are available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. Game Pass subscribers also get access. These versions of the game feature support for online cross-platform Deathmatch and Co-op for up to 16 players, community-published single-player mod support, an optimized renderer, accessibility options, an optional modern IDKFA soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult, and support for up to 120Hz in 4K resolution. The package also includes a brand-new episode titled Legacy of Rust, featuring new weapons and demons made in collaboration with id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.

Existing owners of DOOM and/or DOOM II on any of the platforms will receive a free upgrade to the new combined game. They will also retain access to the previously owned versions. Here’s what the complete package includes:

  • DOOM
  • DOOM II
  • Master Levels for DOOM II
  • TNT: Evilution
  • The Plutonia Experiment
  • No Rest for the Living
  • SIGIL
  • Legacy of Rust (a new episode created in collaboration by individuals from id Software, Nightdive Studios and MachineGames)
  • A new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 maps (to accompany the existing 18) bringing the total Deathmatch levels to 43

I consider DOOM II one of the best games I’ve ever played, and it is the reason I became interested in PC gaming. My first exposure to online gaming was through local BBSes and DWANGO, creating custom .wads for DOOM II and competing in local tournaments, so I’m excited to see continued support for one of the most important games in video game history.
