From now until August 5, 10:00 am Pacific (1:00 pm Eastern), the Steam Tower Defense Fest is offering discounts and demos on games that focus on building and defending. While the concept of a tower defense game dates back decades, the genre became mainstream and popular thanks to custom maps in Warcraft III—the same place that made MOBAs what they are today.

To celebrate the Steam Tower Defense Fest, Steam released a trailer, shining the spotlight on various games, including Thronefall, Element TD 2, The Riftbreaker, and Orcs Must Die! 3. There are dozens of titles participating in the event, including newcomer Cataclismo, which is worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre. We recommend games from the Bloons, Sanctum, and Orcs Must Die! series, while Tower Wars is an old hidden gem that we enjoyed playing many years ago.
