Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new PlayStation 5 beta that will roll out tomorrow to testers. The update will introduce personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds, the ability to limit Remote Play access for individual users, and adaptive charging for controllers on the PlayStation 5 Slim model. As usual, beta testing is limited to invited participants in certain countries, but the update is expected to roll out globally in the coming months.

The main highlight of the update is the personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds. This feature will allow users to go through a sequence of sound quality tests, analyzing numerous factors to create an audio profile that best fits their hearing characteristics. The goal of these personalized 3D audio profiles is to give players a more immersive experience, since a proper sound profile will give them a better sense of the positions of characters and objects in a game.

In addition to personalized 3D audio profiles, the update will introduce additional Remote Play settings per user. This will allow PlayStation 5 owners to control who can connect to their console using Remote Play. The third and final feature, exclusive to PlayStation 5 Slim owners, is adaptive charging for the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller. Adaptive charging conserves power by adjusting the length of time power is supplied to the controller based on its battery level. This also means that if the PlayStation 5 is in rest mode and a controller isn’t connected, the power supply to the USB port will stop after a certain period.
