The wildly successful Helldivers 2 is getting its biggest update yet on August 6, named Escalation of Freedom. The update will add new enemies, mission objectives, difficulty levels, and more, as it looks to shake up the formula as the game reaches six months. For starters, Escalation of Freedom is adding Combat Rating 10, also known as the Super Helldive. It will be the most difficult level yet and will come with even better rewards. Along with CR10, the update will introduce new mission objectives and larger enemy outposts that feature brand new Super Sample rewards. The team has said these outposts will be heavily fortified, so players will need to coordinate and strategize to clear them out. These new mission objectives will also be available on other difficulty levels.
As for new enemies, players can look forward to the return of the Impaler from the original Helldivers. Other additions include the Spore Charger, Terminid Alpha Commander, Rocket Tank, and more.
For some players, they’ll be most excited to hear that Helldivers 2 is making changes to mitigate the problem of grief kicking in the game. A new system is being implemented where if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team’s loot from the previous session. This will allow all items to be picked up by the player before extraction, and the squad doing the kicking will see a message in chat that a player has been kicked, but their loot will not change. This means all players will have the opportunity to leave with all loot collected on the mission, so no Helldiver is losing out.
The team also mentioned that there will be major fixes to the social menu, making it easier to dive with friends. Expect other quality of life upgrades, although details weren’t shared in the blog post. We should learn more in the coming week or when the full patch notes roll out on August 6.
