At long last, BioWare has shared gameplay for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, previously known as Dragon Age Dreadwolf. Making its debut during the Xbox Games Showcase this past Sunday, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is currently slated to launch this fall on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Today’s first look at gameplay is over 20 minutes long, but it comes from the start of the game. This is a bit unfortunate because we all know the beginning of any RPG tends to be the most boring when it comes to combat.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will take players through Thedas, as they try to unite a cast of companions to fight against ancient elven gods. BioWare was quick to confirm the companions are romanceable in the character-driven RPG, where players will visit areas including Rivain, Weisshaupt, Arlathan, Minrathous, and the Deep Roads. The team also detailed the game’s character creator, where players will choose their class, lineage, gender, overall appearance, and more. It also gives a preview of the game’s combat system, which is being described as “fluid moment-to-moment combat.” We also get a look at a new customizable ability wheel that will pause the action, letting players issue commands to their followers, use abilities, and execute combos.
BioWare plans to host a Discord developer Q&A on June 14, so if you’re interested in learning more, join the official BioWare Discord server.
