RimWorld, the highly successful sci-fi colony sim game, has announced a horror-themed expansion DLC called Anomaly. This expansion will introduce monstrous, mysterious, and maddening threats, containment facilities for capturing and studying dark entities, and a new reality-twisting endgame. Ludeon Studios, the developers, have stated that Anomaly will be released in a month, though a specific date has not been revealed. This is likely because Anomaly’s release will coincide with the update 1.5 for the base game. This update is currently undergoing testing on the unstable branch on Steam.

In this expansion, your colonists have accidentally provoked a mad superintelligence. Anomaly is inspired by Cabin in the Woods, The Thing, The Cthulhu mythos, Hellraiser, and more. Besides fighting monsters, the expansion introduces ominous, puzzling, mind-controlling, and earth-shaking threats, allowing players to craft their own personal horror story. To combat these nightmares, Anomaly will introduce new tools and gear, ranging from flamethrowers to hellcat rifles and insanity-inducing weapons to crossbows that stun targets. Players will also have the opportunity to build a grand containment facility to capture, study, and even exploit monsters.

Look for more information about Anomaly to be released in a series of blog posts over the next few weeks.
