Remedy Entertainment has announced that with update 1.0.16.1, which is out on PC now, Alan Wake 2 has lowered its minimum PC requirements. At its launch in October 2023, Alan Wake 2’s minimum requirements were a GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600 GPU. Since release, however, the team has been optimizing the PC version of the game and can now say the minimum GPU requirements are either a GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 5600 XT. All the other hardware requirements remain the same as before.
While this isn’t the most exciting news ever, it’s worth praising a company that continues to optimize a game after its release to the point that its minimum requirements are lowered. Obviously, the more people who can enjoy a game, the better—it also makes financial sense.
In my Alan Wake 2 review, I found the game to be a very memorable experience, but was frustrated at just how close it came to being a masterpiece.
