It might seem a bit late considering it’s mid-February, but the Epic Games Store has shared some stats looking back at 2023. In total, there are now over 270 million Epic Games Store PC users, which marks an increase of 40 million compared to 2022. More impressive, there are now a total of 804 million Epic cross-platform accounts. Last year, Daily Active Users peaked at 36.1 million, while Monthly Active Users reached 75 million, which is up from 2022’s peak of 68 million.
The game offerings on the Epic Games Store continue to expand with over 1,300 new PC titles added to the store in 2023. This brings the grand total to over 2,900 titles available on the platform. Epic Games said players spent $310 million on third-party applications last year, which is actually down 13 percent year over year. However, when you include Epic’s own games, players have spent over $950 million, which marks a 16 percent increase compared to 2022.
The Epic Games Store is well-known for its Free Games program. Last year, it delivered 86 free games, worth over $2,000 USD. Over 580 million free games in total were claimed in 2023!
Looking to the future, Epic Games Store will receive a wholly new Download Manager in early 2024. This will allow users to control timing with updates, schedule downloads, reorder their queue, and more. The team also plans to make “significant” improvements to Offline mode, allowing users the ability to deliberately switch to an offline state, as well as a smoother launcher experience with clear error information, and improved authentication flows for users with limited connectivity.
Social improvements are also planned for the platform, to make players’ friends lists more meaningful. Pre-loading for preorders is also on the to-do list, along with subscription support, allowing developers and publishers to bring their own subscription services to the Epic Games Store. For users, that means earning Rewards with subscriptions purchased on the Epic Games Store. Dynamic bundles, a feature already available on Steam, are also in the works at the Epic Games Store, allowing users to take advantage of cost savings even if they already own certain items in a bundle. Finally, the Epic Games Store will be returning to iOS in Europe with a planned launch this year.
