Players of Microsoft Flight Simulator can now explore the world of Dune and the planet Arrakis through a free expansion. In collaboration with Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team has introduced the iconic Royal Atreides Ornithopter into the game. It’s a special, ultra-high performance variant of the ornithopter, a nimble flying machine that features four precisely tuned oscillating wings.
Starting today (February 13), players can enter the cockpit of the Royal Atreides Ornithopter to undertake three tutorials: takeoff, landing, and freefall. Once the basics have been mastered, there are six activities in the free Dune expansion: five time trials and a rescue mission where a flight instructor must be saved before a massive sandstorm engulfs him.
Alongside the expansion announcement, Xbox unveiled a specially designed Xbox Series S console inspired by the Ornithopter and the world’s first floating Xbox Controller. Fans can win the custom hardware by following Xbox on X (formerly Twitter) and retweeting the official sweepstakes tweet from February 13, 2024, through March 25, 2024.
That’s not all, Xbox will unveil two life-size Royal Atreides Ornithopter gaming simulators in London and New York. Following those debuts, the simulators will be at the London Microsoft Experience Center on Oxford Circus starting February 16 and New York Microsoft Experience Center on Fifth Avenue starting February 26.
