During the January 2024 State of Play, Kojima Productions shared a lengthy and wild trailer for its upcoming game, Death Stranding 2, which is currently slated for release in 2025. The trailer features a few familiar faces, with Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker returning for the sequel. We also get a glimpse of Elle Fanning, who, along with Shioli Kutsuna and Academy Award-winning film director George Miller, will be introduced as new characters. Since the trailer’s debut, fans of the original game have been speculating about whether Mads Mikkelsen will reprise his role as Cliff Unger. Unfortunately, the answer is no, at least according to Hideo Kojima himself.

In the scope of the story, it makes sense that Mikkelsen’s character wouldn’t return. But it’s not like Kojima’s games are known for making sense. Naturally, not everyone believes what Kojima has shared on social media.
