Samsung has announced the release of another consumer SSD, the 990 EVO. Designed for solid performance and improved energy efficiency, the 990 EVO offers sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 megabytes per second (MB/s) and write speeds of up to 4,200 MB/s. This represents a 43 percent increase compared to the previous 970 EVO Plus. Random read and write speeds are boosted to up to 700K and 800K input/output operations per second (IOPS), respectively.

In terms of power efficiency, Samsung claims the 990 EVO is up to 70 percent more efficient compared to the 970 EVO Plus. The SSD supports Modern Standby, which enables an instant on/off function, uninterrupted internet connectivity, and seamless notification reception, even in lower-power states. Additionally, the heat spreader label effectively regulates the thermal condition of the NAND chip, allowing the SSD to maintain consistently high performance without compromising drive integrity.

The 990 EVO is compatible with both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces and is available in 1TB ($124.99) and 2TB ($209.99) capacity options.
