In August, Nintendo confirmed that Charles Martinet, the longtime voice actor for Mario, would transition to a new ambassador role. Since then, it has remained unclear who would take over the role of Mario’s voice, or at the very least, in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder that is set to release on October 20. That question has been answered: voice actor Kevin Afghani confirmed on social media that he is the voice behind Mario and Luigi in the upcoming game.
“Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder,” Afghani shared on X. “Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!”
Afghani has a limited list of credits on his IMDb page, most notably for voicing Arnold in Genshin Impact. Afghani has big shoes to fill, and it remains to be seen whether he will continue as the voice of Mario and friends, or if Nintendo intends to cast different voices for future titles. You can get a sense of Afghani’s version of Mario in the YouTube Shorts below.
