The upcoming horror game Alone in the Dark will not be releasing this Halloween season. Publisher THQ Nordic has announced the game has been delayed to January 16, 2024, citing the crowded October release schedule as the reason. “Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man,” the publisher said in a press release. “We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been scheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.”
In development by Pieces Interactive in Sweden, Alone in the Dark is billed as a love letter to the groundbreaking original. Players can experience a haunting tale from the perspectives of either Edward Carnby, portrayed by David Harbour, or Emily Hartwood, played by Jodie Comer. Set in the deep South of the 1920s, the storyline revolves around the mysterious disappearance of Emily Hartwood’s uncle. Along with private investigator Edward Carnby, Hartwood sets on a journey to Derceto Manor. Within the manor, which serves as a home for the mentally ill, players will confront bizarre inhabitants, nightmarish dimensions, and perilous creatures, all in the quest to unravel a looming dark plot. Alone in the Dark is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Alan Wake 2 chose to delay its release by 10 days to avoid the crowded October month, which also includes Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Forza Motorsport, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
