The handheld PC market is still in its early stages, but Valve’s Steam Deck now has some real competition. First, it was the ASUS ROG Ally and now, Lenovo has introduced the Legion Go with detachable controllers. The device is powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processors and boasts an impressive 8.8-inch QHD+ 16:10 display that supports resolutions from 1600p to 800p, as well as 144Hz and 60Hz refresh rates. Buyers can get up to an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, with 1TB storage and 16GB RAM.
What sets the Lenovo Legion Go apart from the crowd, however, is its detachable controllers akin to the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons. Featuring hall effect joysticks, the Legion TrueStrike controllers also feature an FPS mode, allowing users to dock the right controller into a controller base, where it can then act like a mouse. It’s a very clever design that we can’t wait to experience for ourselves, to see just how close it is to the real thing.
On paper, the Lenovo Legion Go is a very impressive device, but battery life remains a concern. Lenovo does say it has a 49.2Wh capacity battery, but we’ll wait to see some real-world battery life tests before making a decision on whether that’s adequate.
