Sony Interactive Entertainment, responsible for PlayStation, has announced an agreement to acquire Audeze, creators of the popular Penrose wireless gaming headset. “The acquisition will strengthen SIE’s efforts to continue innovating when it comes to the audio experience of PlayStation games,” Sony Interactive Entertainment said in a press release. “Audeze will continue to operate independently and develop multi-platform products, while benefiting from being a part of the PlayStation ecosystem.” That sure sounds like Audeze will continue manufacturing headphones and headsets that are compatible with Switch, Xbox, and PC.
Audeze is based in Santa Ana, California and focuses on developing and manufacturing headphones for the professional audio, audiophile, and gaming markets. The company is known for its unique planar magnetic drivers, which are designed and manufactured at its California facility. Interestingly, yesterday Sony announced two new audio products for PlayStation: the Pulse Elite wireless headset and the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds. Both products use custom-designed planar magnetic drivers, so it’s very likely that Sony collaborated with Audeze on its latest offerings.
