After sharing more details on the PS5 Access controller in May, Sony has announced that it will launch globally on December 6. Preorders for the controller will be available starting July 21 at a suggested retail price of $89.99 USD / $119.99 CAD / ¥12,980 JPY / €89.99 / £79.99. The company has spent the last five years working with accessibility organizations and experts to craft the Access controller, in hopes of enabling gamers with disabilities to enjoy PlayStation games more comfortably and for longer periods.
Designed to be fully customized, the Access controller allows the user to create a layout with different button and stick caps in various shapes and designs. Players have the ability to use the controller from any 360° orientation and will also be able to connect third-party accessibility accessories to it using any of its four industry-standard 3.5mm expansion ports.
On the software side, the PS5 will have settings that allows players to configure the Access controller to meet their needs. Buttons can be mapped to create up to 30 control profiles, along with the ability to adjust stick settings, toggle commands on or off, and even disable buttons altogether so they can’t accidentally be pressed. Each PS5 console can pair up to two Access controllers and one DualSense wireless controller together, and they can all be used collaboratively.
Preorders will start at 10:00am local time in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal. They can be made on direct.playstation.com and at select retailers.
