In its first week of availability, Saints Row IV has sold over one-million copies, Deep Silver and Volition have announced. In fact, in the first days of the game’s availability, the PC variant more than tripled its first week’s sale numbers over Saints Row: The Third.
The game has been a smash hit in Europe, leading the charts in almost all major European countries in the first week of its sale. Overall, Saints Row IV has been well received by the media, and its online community at SaintsRow.com saw registrations increase by a million in the first week alone.
Saints Row IV continues the story of the Third Street Saints as leaders of the free world. The head of the Saints has been elected as the President of the United States, but that’s hardly the selling point of the game. To add a sort of larger-than-life insanity to the series, Saints Row IV features a catastrophic alien invasion and sees the Saints transported to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Players get to use superpowers to fight their way through in order to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak’s mental grasp.
Saints Row IV is available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
“We are incredibly happy of the reception for Saints Row IV as a critical and now a commercial success,” said Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of parent company Koch Media. “The development team at Volition is second-to-none as a driving creative force in the entertainment industry and we are very proud to have them as part of the Deep Silver family.”
