Nintendo has just revealed the two multiplayer modes heading to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for the Wii U and 2DS/3DS. Players will be able to choose either “For Fun” or “For Glory” depending on whether they’re a casual or hardcore player. Those competing in For Fun will be able to play on any random stage, except for Final Destination. All items will be available in the Smash battles and only wins will be recorded in the mode. The more competitive For Glory mode will be playable on the Final Destination maps only and no items will be present. In addition, one-on-one battles will be possible and both wins and losses will be recorded.

Online battles will also not have a simple ranking system, as it would be too broad. Instead, the company has implemented a system called “Global Smash Power,” which is a statistic that shows off how strong a player is and how players stack up against one another. The Smash Power is essentially how many more people the player has outscored.

No rankings will be available for online multiplayer, but matchmaking will be done based on player skill.
