Steam Reviews has been officially announced as the company’s latest addition to the Steam Store. Users will now be able to read, rate and discuss games available on Steam, helping make your purchasing decision easier… or maybe even harder. Users will also be able to rate other users’ reviews to let gamers know if they were helpful or not.
And while this may all seem fairly standard in the world of user reviews, Steam has added some features to make it unique and give more validity to each review. For example, each reviewer’s playtime in that game will appear next to the review – this way, you’ll know whether or not the person even put any effort into checking out the game before posting a positive or negative review on the title.
Purchasing a game directly from Steam also isn’t mandatory in order to review the title. All that matters is that you have launched the product via Steam, so those that have received the games as a gift or from a Humble Bundle will still be able to participate. In addition, developers will be able to respond directly to reviews left on their titles and those comments will be flagged as being from the developer. Perhaps most importantly however, developers won’t be able to delete their own reviews, though they can be flagged as spam or abuse. Reviews flagged as spam or abuse will be in a collapsed form and moderators will be able to delete them if they deem necessary.
The Steam Reviews feature is now live, so if you’re a Steam gamer and want to promote your favorite game on Steam, start leaving some reviews.
