With Valve’s Steam Machines on the horizon, it has been revealed that Steam now has 65-million active users with six-million daily concurrent users logging in each day. The 65-million user count shows a 30-percent growth in players over the last year and it’s assumed that active users is classified as a user that’s logged in at least once every four weeks. Currently, the service’s most popular game is Dota 2, boasting over 500,000 daily peak concurrent players.
This year is Steam’s 10th anniversary, and Valve celebrated by not only announcing SteamOS and Steam Machines, but also its unique Steam Controller, sporting a pair of trackpads.
The 65-million figure beats out Xbox Live’s reported 48-million accounts, around half of which are Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The Sony PlayStation Network on the other hand, boasts 110-million registered users.
One thing this proves, for sure, is that PC gaming is hardly dying and that Valve’s digital distribution service is growing at a rapid pace. But then again, who does sales better than Steam?
