StarCraft Universe, a custom map by Upheaval Arts built in the Starcraft II map editor, is now on Kickstarter seeking additional funding. The project, which has been ongoing for the better part of two years, has received the blessing of Blizzard Entertainment and is quite the ambitious mod for StarCraft II. The team from Upheaval Arts has been working on creating multiplayer raiding experiences similar to what can be found in World of Warcraft, but using the StarCraft II‘s engine.

Currently, players can test out a single-player beta of the Prologue to StarCraft Universe before deciding whether or not they’d like to donate towards the Kickstarter fund. While the mod will obviously have shortcomings being built in an RTS engine, the team at Upheaval Arts should be applauded for making such an extravagant mod from the map editor and working with Blizzard Entertainment to offer something unique to gamers.

StarCraft Universe is playable through Battle.net and StarCraft II as a custom map.
