Sony revealed today at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show that it had sold 4.2-million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of December 28, 2013. That’s a staggering number no matter how you look at it, especially considering the Xbox One had sold over 3-million units by the end of last year.

In addition, the company revealed that PlayStation 4 software sales through both retail and digital are up to 9.7 million worldwide while PlayStation Plus memberships have increased by over 90 percent between the PlayStation 4’s launch in North America and the end of the year. Of course, each PlayStation 4 console came with a 30-day trial for PlayStation Plus, so it’s unclear how many members it actually retained past the free trial.
