At the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Sony announced PlayStation Now, its streaming service that will be heading to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, the company’s televisions, tablets and smartphones. PlayStation Now will essentially be the Gaikai service Sony purchased in 2012 and the service is being demonstrated live at CES with The Last of Us.
According to Sony, the service will allow users to rent games or pay for a subscription that will let them “explore a range of titles.” A closed beta in the U.S. is expected to launch at the end of the month with the service being rolled out by the end of the summer. It will head to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 first before being rolled out to the PlayStation Vita. Most 2014 models of the brand’s Bravia TVs will support PlayStation Now and the service will stream full games while saving to the cloud.
