The PS4 is off to a hot start in Europe, becoming the fastest-selling console in UK history beating the eight-year record held by the PlayStation Portable, which sold 185,000 units when it launched in 2005. Over the weekend, the Sony PS4 sold 250,000 units in the UK, which is a very respectable number despite the fact that it sold over one-million units in the U.S. within the first 24 hours of availability.
Xbox One sales are up near the 170,000 mark in the UK, the same console that also sold over one-million units in its launch markets in less than 24 hours.
But considering the Wii U is also considered part of this generation’s console war, its sales in the UK might be a depressing statistic. The Wii U’s lifetime sales in the UK is around the 150,000 mark after a year on the market – a figure that was trumped by the PS4 in just its launch weekend.
