If you’re still wondering why Electronic Arts was recently bought for $55 billion, here’s one reason. Battlefield 6 has sold over seven million copies in its first three days. That makes it the biggest opening ever in the franchise, which has been around since 2002. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025, and, according to Electronic Arts, has seen over 172 million matches played online and more than 15 million hours watched on streaming services during the three-day weekend. The game also set a new record for the most concurrent Battlefield players, though the exact number wasn’t announced. On Steam, it peaked at 747,440 concurrent players, ranking it 14th on the all-time list.
Battlefield 6 comes from Battlefield Studios, a collective of teams that include Criterion Games, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive. This time around, a new community development collaboration called Battlefield Labs was implemented to shape the game’s multiplayer, and it clearly paid off. Many longtime fans of the franchise praised the game’s development and how feedback was incorporated. Along with new multiplayer modes and the return of a single-player campaign, Battlefield 6 also brings back Portal, a suite of powerful creator tools for players.
Season 1 kicks off on October 28 with Rogue Ops, adding a new map called Blackwell Fields along with a new 4v4 mode. At the time of writing, Battlefield 6 has a Very Positive rating on Steam with over 43,000 user reviews in English.
